BLACK DOT WIRELESS PARTNERS WITH OPEN RANGE COMMUNICATIONS FOR WIRELESS SITE DEVELOPMENT IRVINE, Calif., June 12, 2009 - Black Dot Wireless has been awarded a contract for wireless site development services from leading wireless broadband service provider Open Range Communications (ORC), headquartered in Greenwood Village, Colo. Under the terms of the contract, Black Dot Wireless will join Alvarion in deploying the Open Range network in the western United States. Black Dot's wireless site development services will include site acquisition, architecture and engineering, environmental site construction, and overall project management for the region. "We are pleased to partner with Black Dot to ensure that millions of Americans who live in areas that are un-served or underserved by current broadband providers are a priority," said Keith Paglusch, executive vice president of Open Range Communications. "Wireless broadband is the most efficient way to bring service to the vast majority of these communities." In January 2009, Open Range Communications received a $100 million investment from JPMorgan's private equity arm, One Equity Partners (OEP). This investment was a prerequisite to a $267 million Broadband Access Loan from the United States Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Utilities Program (RDUP). Within the next five years, Open Range, through the use of WiMAX technology, plans to deliver wireless broadband to more than 500 un-served and underserved communities within the United States. "Since the inception of Black Dot Wireless in 2004, our goal has been to reduce the cost of maintaining and deploying a network - cheaper, faster and smarter," said Marc Anthony, CEO of Black Dot Wireless. Letter From Black Dot CEO Marc Anthony Turning challenges into opportunities! The past twenty years have been an era of explosive growth and change for our nation and the world. The wireless industry and technology were at the forefront of this wave and fueled the transformation, dramatically impacting the way the people choose to live. When Black Dot opened its doors in 2004, I never imagined that in five short years we also would have accomplished so much. At the same time, I also never imagined that we would be confronted with the global challenges we face today. Our world economy is in chaos, our nation is stagnant, industry suffers and people acutely feel the pain. Much of this pain is a result of not fully comprehending the long term impact of decisions being made years ago, whose consequences we face here and now. The wireless industry has also seen its fortunes reverse as many of the decisions made early and often in their wireless network design and deployment continue to haunt them today. The cost of wireless service has dramatically decreased to benefit to the end consumer, but the costs to deploy, expand and maintain services has grown exponentially. At Black Dot, our mission centers around a single word, “optimization”. “Optimization” simply defined means to select the best element from some set of available alternatives. It is in taking a situation that is a challenge, and developing the answers that will meet the needs of our clients and their strategic partners. Optimization is ultimately, improvement. Our focus on optimization gives our clients the relief they need to innovate while providing their strategic partners the ability to secure long term partnerships with our client. As the opportunities arise, Black Dot will think strategically, be creative in engineering constructive outcomes, and be a valued partner in implementing change and driving results. As I look at Black Dot’s past achievements and consider the future before us, I am reminded of the story of the two boys walking along a beach covered with thousands of starfish stranded by the tides. Suddenly, one of the boy’s stops scoops up a starfish and lobs it back into the waves. He continues on and on until his companion stops him asking, “Why bother? There is only one of you and tens of thousands of starfish. You won’t make any difference. ” The boy pauses, thoughtfully considers his question and then reaches for another starfish. As he throws it back into the breaking surf, he simply states, “I will make a difference for this one.” All across our country, there is a call to action to find ways to optimize and improve. Black Dot may not revolutionize the world overnight, but every day we create incremental value for our clients; yesterday, today and tomorrow. Every day, we make a difference. Most gratefully, Marc Anthony |
